Five Falun Gong Practitioners Missing in Shanxi Province

By a Clearwisdom correspondent in Shanxi Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ren Yong from Datong City, Shanxi Province, was recently illegally arrested in Huairen County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. Ms. Cui Yuping and other practitioners were later arrested when they visited the police station to ask about Mr. Ren's arrest. Five Falun Gong practitioners have been missing since then.

When Mr. Ren was telling people the facts about Falun Gong at around 4:30 p.m. on June 24, 2010, he was arrested by officers from the Huairen County Yunxi Police Station, and later sent to the Huairen County Domestic Security Division. Ms. Cui Yuping went to the police station, asking about Mr. Ren's arrest, and she was subsequently arrested.

On June 25, another six Falun Gong practitioners, including Cui Yutao, Tian Fusheng, An Meili, and Shi Suguo, went to the police station asking for an explanation of Ren Yong and Cui Yuping's arrest. They also told the people there the facts about Falun Gong. They were detained by the local police station officers.

Officers Niu Quanxi and Sun Jianjun from the Datong City Domestic Security Division sent Ms. Cui Yuping and four other Falun Gong practitioners to the Datong City Nanguan Police Station on the afternoon of June 26. Another practitioner, Shi Suguo, was sent to the Xinpingwang Police Station, and two other practitioners were sent back home.

At around 2:30 a.m. on June 27, Sun Jianjun, together with four or five other policemen, broke into Ms. Cui Yuping's home without a search warrant. They confiscated two computers, Falun Gong books, and personal belongings. Since one of the two computers belonged to someone else in Cui Yuping's family, they tried to stop the police from taking that computer, but the police threatened to arrest them.

Shi Suguo was transfered from the Huairen Detention Center to the Xinpingwang Police Station in Datong City, Kuangqu District on the afternoon of July 27. Without any search warrant, officers from the Xinpingwang Police Station combed through Shi Suguo's house three times. Eight hundred yuan was found to be missing afterwards.

Cui Yuping, Ren Yong, Tian Fusheng, and two other Falun Gong practitioners are currently still missing.

Practitioner Zhang Yunting Forced into Homelessness and Passed Away in 2008

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Yunting from Dandong City passed away in October 2008. Due to the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong, he was forced into homelessness, and his wife left him.

Mr. Zhang Yunting was born in 1961. After the CCP started to persecute Falun Gong in July of 1999, Mr. Zhang went outside to practice Falun Gong. He was taken away by police from the Badao Police Station in Yuanbao District, Dandong City, and was detained for 15 days. Another time he was arrested and detained for over 10 days by the Liudaokou Police Department.

In June or July of 2001, Mr. Zhang was forced to move due to harassment and being followed by policemen and national security guards. One time, a banner related to Falun Gong was hung on a building in Dandong City. National security guards assumed that he had hung up the banner and arrested him. Mr. Zhang was handcuffed to a piece of heating equipment for two days and nights. He was released later due to lack of evidence.

In July 2006, Mr. Zhang Yunting had extravasated blood in his brain, and was sent to a hospital by relatives. He remained bedridden and was sent to a home for the elderly in the second half of 2007.

He passed away on August 25, 2008.

Chinese Academy of Science Pressures a Father to Turn In His Son for Practicing Falun Dafa

By a correspondent in China

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Yu Ya'ou, a PhD candidate at the Chinese Academy of Science, South China Botanical Garden, was deprived of his right to defend his thesis because he included a sentence expressing his gratitude to Falun Dafa. After the New Year, the leadership in the South China Botanical Garden, under instructions from the 610 Office, tried to persecute Mr. Yu by using enrollment regulations and student management provisions of the school. They also told his father to report to the 610 Office and help them send his son to a brainwashing center.

On March 22, 2010, Mr. Yu received a tip from one of his professors. He said, "Hi, Yu Ya'ou. I wanted to let you know that we sent an overnight letter to you at your father's address." When the letter arrived, Yu refused to accept it, because he knew that the school had sent it under pressure from the 610 Office.

On April 8, the person in charge of household registration at the school told him that he had been dismissed from the graduate school and that his household registration had been changed back to his original city.

Yu Ya'ou has completed all of the school's scholastic requirements and has submitted his thesis. We have to question by what authority the school deprived him of his right to defend his thesis, based solely on his expression of gratitude to Falun Dafa. We question and denounce the school's denial of Yu's rights because of his faith. Furthermore, one of the officials of the school said, "In this situation, Yu Ya'ou must be sent to the brainwashing center. Our original plan was to send him to the brainwashing center for three months after his graduation."

Under these serious and threatening conditions, Yu Ya'ou was forced to leave the school in order to avoid life-threatening persecution.

Because Yu Ya'ou refused to accept the change of residence certificate, someone from the security branch of the school called Mr. Yu's father and pressured him to help them force his son to attend the brainwashing center in Guangzhou. They even tried to convince his father that Yu Ya'ou would be allowed to be granted his degree and get a job after the brainwashing.

Before this incident, Mr. Yu and his wife, Li Shan Shan, were arrested and taken to a forced labor camp by the Security brigade police on June 9, 2008. They were taken by force to the Railroad Convalescence Home where they were brainwashed. The brainwashing center extorted 50,000 yuan as "tuition" from Yu Ya'ou's parents.

According to police, Mr. Yu and his wife were arrested after the father of another Falun Gong practitioner reported them and his own son to the police.

The reason Chinese Communist Party personnel kept ging to Yu Ya'ou's father to "settle the problems," because both Ya'ou and his wife are unemployed. Ya'ou's father is the sole support for their family of four. As they were unable to get any concessions from Ya'ou, they tried to deceive, threaten, entrap, and coerce his father. They even went to his father's workplace to pressure his boss, vainly attempting to force Ya'ou's father to turn in his son.

Ms. Zhang Weihua Dies as Result of Persecution in Sichuan Province

By our correspondent from Sichuan Province, China

Name: Zhang Weihua (张卫华)
Gender: Female
Age: 32
Address: #62, 4th Section of Liulichang Village, Jinjiang District, Chengdu City(琉璃场村4组62号)
Occupation: Unknown
Date of Death: January 29, 2010
Date of Most Recent Arrest: November 20, 2007
Most Recent Place of Detention: Jinniu Brainwashing Center in Chengdu City (成都市金牛洗脑班))
City: Chengdu
Province: Sichuan
Persecution Suffered: Forced labor, brainwashing, beatings, solitary confinement, torture, force-feedings, physical restraint, home ransacked, interrogation, detention, denial of restroom use

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Zhang Weihua used to suffer from asthma, but her health greatly improved after she began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong after the persecution began in July 1999. She was arrested multiple times, detained, and sent to a forced labor camp and brainwashing center, which damaged her health. She died on January 29, 2010, at the young age of 32.

Ms. Zhang's family had to move to her parent's house in 2001 to avoid police harassment. Her mother, He Jianqing is also a practitioner. Her father, Zhang Changwen did not practice. He was a factory director.

On the morning of May 13, 2005, about 20 officers from the Yangliu Village Police Station, a branch office of the Jinjiang District Police Department in Chengdu City, broke into the home of Ms. Zhang and her husband, Zhou Jingdong, located in Liulichang Village. The police searched their home for more than half a day. At dusk, they blocked the areas around the home and took the couple to the Pi County Detention Center in Chengdu City. Ms. He Jianqing, Ms. Zhang's mother, was forced into a brainwashing session held at the intersection near Chengren Street in Chengdu City, while her father, Mr. Zhang Changwen, was under huge pressure, and her younger brother was forced to leave home to avoid arrest.

Upon entering the detention center, Ms. Zhang was forced to strip off all of her clothes and be searched. All of her buttons and zippers were cut off, and her 102 yuan in cash was stolen. She tried to clarify the truth to the police, but they did not listen. She started a hunger-strike to resist the persecution. The police attempted to force her to eat by beating her and cursing, but it was no use. They then sent several criminal inmates to try to persuade her to eat. When she did not heed them, they force-fed her. Prisoner Ma Xiaoqiang sat on her, holding her arms down, and another male prisoner inserted a three-foot-long tube into her nose and force-fed her three boxes of milk. She was miserable, vomiting non-stop, getting her face, head, and clothes all dirty.

When the force-feeding did not work, they gave her an intravenous injection. She still would not cooperate so they tied her to a metal bed. Afterward, the criminal inmates tortured her in every way imaginable. They even took urine from the restroom and used it to "wash" her face and brush her teeth.

On the afternoon of May 27, 2005, guards took Ms. Zhang to Qingyang District People's Hospital. There was a special patient ward guarded by armed police, monitoring cameras, and locked gates. This was specially used for sick prisoners and Falun Gong practitioners on hunger strike. Some practitioners have been tortured to death here. Guards restrained Ms. Zhang in bed 45 and handcuffed and shackled her ankles. During the day, her cuffs were sometimes taken off, but during the night, she would be both handcuffed and shackled. There was a bucket for her to use as toilet. She was locked like this for up to three and half days at a time. 20 days into her hunger strike, Ms. Zhang Weihua was in critical condition. Only then did they release her.

After she was taken home she was supervised in her home by three officers from the Yangliu Village Police Station. One of them was Yang Hongqiang. The next day (June 7, 2005), an officer from the Yangliu Village Police Station and other policemen took Ms. Zhang to the Jinjiang Police Department Brainwashing Center, where she was detained with her mother. Her husband, Zhou Jingdong, was still in the Pi County Detention Center.

After his wife, his daughter, and his son-in-law were all arrested and taken away, Ms. Zhang's father, Zhang Changwen, had a hard time maintaining the empty home. There were also three policemen at his home waiting to arrest other practitioners, should they visit. Around June 7, Mr. Zhang told others that the police might start torturing him. There were signs afterward showing that from June 7 to June 9, officers from the Yangliu Village Police station or Department I of the Jinjiang District Police Department locked him up, threatened him, and carried out a brutal and violent interrogation. On the night of June 9, Mr. Zhang's family was notified that he had died of a sudden stroke.

The same day, despite Ms. Zhang just learning of her father's death, she was take to the Air Force Hospital. She kept on her hunger strike and was finally released after one more week in custody. Local police assigned officers to watch her 24 hours a day at her home. In order to avoid further mistreatment, Ms. Zhang escaped home by climbing out of her window. Police arrested her mother, taking her to the Jinjiang District Brainwashing Center again. Her younger brother, Zahng Weiguo, and all her friends were under 24-hour surveillance.

On the afternoon of November 20, 2007, Domestic Security agents from the Xindu District Police Department of Chengdu City stormed Wuli Village, ransacked the place, and arrested Ms. Zhang and two other practitioners. The police were afraid their violent methods would be made public, so they covered their heads with bags and forced the practitioners into the police vehicle. Around December 11, 2007, officers from Guangrong Community Police Station picked up Ms. Zhang from the Xindu District Police Department and took her to the Jinniu Brainwashing Center.

After she finally returned home, six community security guards were assigned to watch Ms. Zhang by living in her home. The long-term surveillance, detention and tortures severely damaged Ms. Zhang's health. She died at the untimely age of 32.

Ms. Zhang Fengzhen Paralyzed as a Result of Beatings Suffered at Liaoning Women's Prison--Dies after Five Years

By a correspondent from Liaoning Province, China

Name: Zhang Fengzhen (张凤珍)
Gender: Female
Age: 63
Address: Unknown
Occupation: Unknown
Date of Death: March 9, 2010
Date of Most Recent Arrest: 2001
Most Recent Place of Detention: Liaoning Province Women's Prison (辽宁省女子监狱)
City: Shenyang
Province: Liaoning
Persecution Suffered: Illegal sentencing, beatings, imprisonment, torture, force-feedings, extortion
Key Persecutors: Guo Haiyan, An Rui (prison guards); Shan Xia, Yang Jing, and Zhang Yingying (inmates)

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Zhang Fengzhen died in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, on March 9, 2010. For five years, she was paralyzed and suffered pain as a result of vicious beatings she was subjected to while unlawfully held at the Liaoning Province Women's Prison, for refusing to renounce her belief in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance.

Ms. Zhang was arrested in 2001 for distributing Falun Gong-related materials. The Heping District Court in Shenyang City illegally sentenced her to three and a half years in prison. In March 2003, she was taken to the Liaoning Province Women's Prison (then known as Dabei Prison). Prison guards ordered inmates to beat her nonstop for six hours. As a result, her liver was ruptured. She was extremely weak when she was released in 2005. Shortly after her release, she became entirely paralyzed, and later lost the ability to speak.

A description of what she suffered in prison was previously published by the Chinese Minghui site in 2006:

"I am a Falun Gong practitioner. I was unlawfully placed under arrest by the Heping District Court in Shenyang City in 2001 for distributing Falun Gong materials. During the trial, I was ordered to sit in the defendant's seat. I told them that the seat was reserved for Jiang Zemin [the CCP head who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong]. I was then told to just stand there. The attorney assigned to me did not even try to defend me. I was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. I was taken to Dabei Prison in March 2003, which has since been renamed Liaoning Province Women's Prison."

"When I arrived at the ward, Guo Haiyan, a section head of the No. 3 Division, asked me whether anyone else in my family practiced Falun Gong. She then ordered me to memorize statements inmates were required to recite whenever they were to enter the guards' office. I told her, 'I am not guilty and will not recite those statements.'"

"Guo was angry when she saw me standing firm with my arms behind me. She cursed me, then asked again in a threatening tone, 'Are you going to do as you are told?' She told a guard named An Rui to take me out of the office. An called over an inmate called Shan Xia, who had been convicted of theft. An gave Shan a few orders and left."

"Shan took me to a warehouse for stacks of cloth. Then another criminal inmate, Yang Jing, came in. They immediately asked me whether I would recite the statements and I told them no. They started punching and kicking me as they had been ordered to do by the guards. Shan started to kick me in the head. When I fell down, they dragged me upright and kicked me in the head again."

"A third inmate, Zhang Yingying, later joined Shan and Yang. All three were in their early 20s. They cursed while attacking me, 'Who do you think you are? We've taken care of stronger ones.' They stripped off my clothes, whipped me with electric wires, and smeared slanderous words about Falun Dafa on my back. The three took turns beating me from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., nonstop."

"I suffered severe injuries. My face was bruised and swollen. I felt excruciating pains in my internal organs, as well as when urinating. I was not able to stand with my back straight. A bitter taste filled my mouth. Even breathing caused pain all over my body. I was not able to turn over in bed. It hurt whenever someone bumped into me. I demanded a physical examination, but the guards did not heed me. I went on a hunger strike for over a week to protest. The guards tried everything to make me eat, but I refused to cooperate. They ordered four or five people to force-feed me, but I refused to swallow. There were spills all over my clothes. There were numerous cuts around my neck, although they had wrapped neck with a towel during the force-feeding.

"After eight or nine days on a hunger strike, I was taken to the prison hospital for an examination. It turned out that my liver was severely ruptured, my lungs and heart were functioning abnormally, and my blood pressure was high. To cover up their crimes, the guards lied to me and told me that I had a liver tumor. They told my family that I was not in good enough health to be able to see them, but they refused to release me on medical parole. They took 1,000 yuan from my family 'to cover medical expenses.'"

A fellow Falun Gong practitioner in the prison at about the same time as Ms. Zhang gave another account, which was published on July 24, 2008, by the Chinese Minghui website:

"Ms. Zhang Fengzhen was in her 50s. When I first saw her, she had to be supported by others to walk. At night, she needed help to slowly lay down on her bed, and she had no strength to even turn over. At one point, the guards ordered three criminal inmates, Yang Jing, Zhang Yingying, and Shan Xia, to beat her for six hours. Ms. Zhang still refused to renounce Falun Gong.

Mr. Mei Chunfu Dies as a Result of Persecution

By our correspondent from Henan Province, China

Name: Mei Chunfu (梅春富)
Gender: Male
Age: 63
Address: Shawuo Township, Qi County, Henan Province
Occupation: Unknown
Date of Death: 2009
Date of Most Recent Arrest: February 7, 2007
Most Recent Place of Detention: Jilin City Detention Center (杞县看守所)
City: Qi County
Province: Henan
Persecution Suffered: Forced labor, brainwashing, beatings, solitary confinement, torture, physical restraint, detention

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Mei Chunfu had many diseases before practicing Falun Gong. He became a healthy person in both mind and body soon after practicing, and his entire family was moved by the miracles of Falun Gong. Since July 1999, after the persecution began, he was detained for almost seven years, endangering his life.

Mr. Mei went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in October 1999. The police arrested and detained him in the Qi County Detention Center. The guards tortured him with tightening the ropes (1) and ankle shackles; they punched and kicked him, locked him up in a small cell (2), and deprived him of drinking water. Because Mr. Mei persisted in practicing his faith and did not accept the brainwashing, the guards locked his shackles together with handcuffs, which meant that he could not stand up or sit down, and he had to stay in a very painful bent position. When it was meal time, he was still not released from this torture, and had to hold the bowl with both handcuffed hands, bending his head down hard. Mr. Mei clarified the truth to guards, and was locked in the small cell another 15 days without drinking water. He could not bear the thirst, and had to drink some dirty water from the toilet bowl.

In May 2000, Mr. Mei went to Beijing again to appeal. He was arrested and picked up by the Qi County police, detained in the Qi County Detention Center, and sentenced to three years of forced labor in the Kaifeng City Forced Labor Camp.

Not long after he was released from the labor camp, Mr. Mei went to Kaifeng City to visit family on March 16, 2004. He was talking to people about Falun Gong on the way, and was arrested and sentenced to another three years of forced labor at the Kaifeng City Forced Labor Camp.

In the autumn of 2006, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhang Zhagen was tortured to death in the Kaifeng City Forced Labor Camp. To avoid an investigation, the camp administration transferred all detained practitioners to the Xuchang City Forced Labor Camp, where Mr. Mei was again tortured.

Only two months after his release from the Xuchang City Forced Labor Camp, Mr. Mei was still suffering both mentally and physically from the torture. On the afternoon of February 7, 2007, Qi County Domestic Security Division Chief Liu Hongtao had Shawuo Township police take Mr. Mei and his family to the Township Police Station. After a few questions, Liu said, "His thoughts are still not converted, take him in." They detained Mr. Mei again.

Mr. Mei went on a ten-day hunger strike to protest his illegal arrest. He had not recovered from the forced labor camp, so ten days on a hunger strike caused him to be emaciated, and he could not walk. The Qi County Detention Center authorities were afraid he would die, so they notified his family to pick him up.

The police never left him in peace, and kept harassing him at home. Mr. Mei never fully recovered, and died in 2009.

(1) The torture method "Tightening Rope" utilizes a finger-size hemp rope soaked in water. The persecutors set it on the Dafa practitioner's neck, and tightly wrap it around the arms. In order to maximize the pain for the victim, they often strip the practitioner down to his underwear. Usually, over three persecutors work together to apply this torture. When the rope reaches the wrists, it is tightened. They pull the practitioner's hands behind his back, both ends of the rope are inserted through the portion of the rope on the neck, then two persecutors forcefully pull down both ends of the rope as hard as they can and then tie it. At this time, the blood circulation is cut off and the victim will experience increased heart rate, excruciating pain in both arms and within a few minutes, heavy sweating.

In order to make sure the rope is as tight as can be, the persecutors insert glass bottles and wooden sticks under practitioner's wrists, so the rope will sink deep into his flesh. Meanwhile, they also slap the practitioner's face and shock him with electric baton(s). Each session of "Tightening Rope" lasts ten to twenty minutes. After the rope is loosened, the victim has lost the feeling in his arms, and it takes a long time to regain it. For those who have experienced this torture, their arms are often disabled in severe cases, or they cannot raise their arms or they lose some function in the arms. The marks left on the arms by the rope usually don't disappear for one or two years. See case on http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/1/31/44607p.html

(2) The detainee is locked up in a very small cell individually. The guards handcuff practitioners behind their back in a fixed position, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell during the daytime. During the night the rats are running around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

Mother and Daughter, Both Hong Kong Residents, Detained for Nine Months

(Clearwisdom.net) On June 4, 2009, Hong Kong residents Ms. Li Yaohua and her daughter, Zhang Yibo, were arrested in the Xuhui District of Shanghai by personnel from the Tianlin Police Station and the local 610 Office. They have been detained ever since, for a total of nearly nine months. Their case files have been sitting in the Xuhui District Court for over four months. They are still being detained in the Xuhui District Detention Center along with other practitioners Zhang Qin, Lu Yuzhi, and Ye Ying and her daughter.

Since the practitioners' arrest and detention, the local police authorities have been to Ms. Li's husband's workplace to harass him. In mid-November of last year during U.S. President Obama's visit to Shanghai, the local police assigned several policemen to watch the husband 24 hours a day. His workplace terminated his work contract at the end of last year.

Ms. Li Yaohua's father, Li Shanzhen, is 91 years old. In order to try to secure the release of his daughter and granddaughter, Mr. Li visited the Tianlin Police Station, the Xuhui District Police Branch, the Shanghai City Police Department, the local Procuratorate, and the local People's Congress Standing Committee. He was unsuccessful each time.

Ms. Li's son, Zhang Yiyuan, teaches at the University of California at Los Angeles in the United States. He initiated a rescue effort overseas and gained attention from the international community. California State Assemblymen Chuck Devore and Van Tran wrote to Han Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, and President Obama and requested that the Chinese Communist regime immediately release Li Yaohua and Zhang Yibo.

In November 2009, Mr. Li Shanzhen and Mr. Zhang Yiyuan flew to Taiwan from Shanghai and Los Angeles, respectively. They appealed to the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), and the Taiwan Ministry of Justice.

Due to pressure from the international community, Shanghai authorities have repeatedly delayed the proceedings. Reportedly, in early February of 2010, Xuhui District prosecutor Xu Zhenhui attempted to persuade Ms. Li Yaohua to plea guilty in return for a lenient sentence, but she did not agree.

Eyewitness Account: Falun Gong Practitioner Driven to Mental Collapse at a Forced Labor Camp

(Clearwisdom.net) As shocking as it is that Ms. Liu Zhimei, a Falun Gong practitioner and a former Tsinghua University student, was driven to mental collapse at the hands of Communist Party regime prison guards, she is certainly not the only one. ("Former Tsinghua University Student Ms. Liu Zhimei Sustains Nervous Breakdown From Injections of Unnecessary and Harmful Drugs" http://www.clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2010/2/18/114775.html) Minghui reporter Hua Qing recently interviewed Ms. Zeng Zheng, a practitioner living in Sydney, Australia, who recounted a similar incident she witnessed while in detention.

Ms. Zeng Zheng holds a master's degree in geochemistry from Beijing University. She began her cultivation practice once she discovered answers to questions about life and the universe in Falun Gong's teaching. After the persecution started, she was once detained at Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp for one year and was brutally tortured.

While speaking with people in Sidney about Falun Dafa and the persecution, Ms. Zeng often brings up what she once saw with her own eyes: a practitioner was driven to mental collapse in the labor camp. She told the reporter, "Information about Tsinghua University student Liu Zhimei being driven to a mental breakdown reminded me of the true reason why some detained practitioners who suffered from ruthless torture had severe mental problems. I witnessed a practitioner's mental collapse."

Ms. Zeng continued, "With me in the labor camp was a young woman in her 20s from Gansu Province who had been arrested for appealing on behalf of Falun Gong. She was initially determined in her belief. After five days and nights of non-stop torture, however, her mind broke down. I was present the night she had a nervous breakdown. She was perfectly normal one minute, but the next minute I noticed a confused and blank look in her eyes. The look appeared sort of stupid. Then she burst into really loud and silly laughter. I knew right away she was no longer her true self. At that moment I felt a chill running down my spine and realized what I had seen was the most frightening thing in the world. Nothing compares to the fear that a bubbly person was deprived of her basic ability to think and suddenly became mentally abnormal. I had no idea what torture she was subjected to prior to that moment, or if she was given any kind of injection, but I will never forget that moment."

Ms. Zeng also recalled that she was once given an IV containing unknown substances. "That was during my hunger strike when the guards took me to the clinic for an IV on the fourth day. Somehow the doctors couldn't get the drug into me, so they ordered a criminal detainee to do it. As soon as the detainee began the IV process I became extremely uncomfortable and muddle-minded. I felt as if I was floating in air without any strength at all. I had to lean against a dresser in the clinic. I couldn't even hear what they were talking about. They sort of ' phased out' of my sight, just like in a movie."

Ms. Zeng mentioned a very vicious torture involving using electric needles at acupuncture points, which can cause excruciating pain or even lead to a mental breakdown. She said, "Between 2000 and 2001, another practitioner and I were sent to and taken out of two places almost at the same time: Beijing Forced Labor Dispatch Division and Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp. She had just turned 20 and was a pretty young woman with big eyes.

"Prior to being sent to the dispatch division, she was held at the Dongcheng Detention Center, where the guards used every conceivable means to torture her. Despite their attempts to have her give up Falun Gong, she always held firm to her belief. Later on the guards resorted to the above-mentioned electrical torture, using an electric needle to apply high-voltage electricity at her acupuncture points. She lost consciousness immediately. She was mentally disoriented when she regained consciousness and had lost her memory. She couldn't take care of herself at all. The guards manipulated her any way they wanted. When told to do so, she simply transcribed all the slanderous materials they gave her without objection. When there was nothing to do she was just like a living dead person. Because her eyes were very big, her blank looks were even more prominent. She became thinner and thinner, and later on, she was extremely fragile.

"While at the dispatch division I saw how much effort it was for her to take even a small step. After she swayed for a long time she 'threw' her left foot forward, since that foot didn't seem to belong to her. She almost lost her balance and swayed precariously. She would find her balance after rocking back and forth for quite a while. Still shaking, she bent down with difficulty and pressed her hands on the ground. After panting for a while, she suddenly pushed up and threw her right foot forward. She often had to remain on all fours for quite a while before gathering sufficient strength to straighten her back and then to move on."

Brutal Persecution at the Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp

(Clearwisdom.net) There is an intensive management district inside the Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp. Most of the Dafa practitioners are held there. The prison authorities divided a large room into 8 square meter rooms with one door and one small window. It usually held three people, one Dafa practitioner and two other inmates who were monitoring the Dafa practitioner at all times. The Dafa practitioner is not allowed to go to the bathroom outside. Everything was forced to be done in the room and the room's air was terrible, particularly in the summer time. One could hardly breathe due to lack of fresh air and the clothes would stick to the body because of the sweat. Dafa practitioners were also subjected to slave labor.

Dafa practitioner Huang Jinrong requested an appeal to study the Fa and practice the exercises but she was cursed out by the guards who confiscated her appeal letter and instigated inmates Suo Liping and Liao Lixia to beat her up. They poked her with needles, bit her, grabbed her hair and hit her head against the wall. Huang Jinrong still has headaches to this day as well as nausea. The guard Lu Xiuying cuffed Dafa practitioner Huang Jinrong to the bed and wouldn't let her sleep or clean herself. Inmate Suo Liping also used up Huang's money and Liao Lixia extorted 100 yuan from Huang. The prison authorities openly encouraged such abuse under their authority.

Since Dafa practitioners have been kind to everyone some inmates with kind hearts do believe that Dafa practitioners are all good people. The relationships between them were good most of the time. It is the guards who instigated hatred in the inmates in order to help them persecute Dafa practitioners.

The guards would add pressure to the inmates and threaten them if Dafa practitioners refused slave labor, refused to wear the prison outfits or refused to report.. In order to prevent the circulation of Dafa articles, they used the excuse of a safety check and search Dafa practitioners and their belongings. Whoever refused would be subjected to an extension of their sentence. If they found Dafa articles or pens, the guards would extend the sentence terms of the inmates, forcing the inmates to intensify their monitoring, and even beat and curse the practitioners.

The Recent Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Liaoning Province Women's Prison

By our correspondent in Liaoning, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Liaoning Province Women's Prison is located in Shenyang City. Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally detained and persecuted there for a long time. The persecution is especially bad in Division 10. Practitioners there are pressured to "transform." Newly detained practitioners have to sleep on the ground and are deprived of sleep at night. Two inmates take turns to monitor one newly detained practitioner. In addition to not being allowed to interact with others, they were also forced to read books or watch DVDs that defame Falun Gong.

In Division 10, detainees are often forced to work overtime at night, and they often have to work on Sundays. In late 2009, detainees often worked until past midnight or all night long, in addition to all day. Li Jing, a supervisor in Group 2 of Division 10, had inmates Sun Yanan and Liu Shu beat and verbally abuse practitioner Ms. Qi Ximin and try to force her to write statements criticizing herself.

On September 23, 2009, because practitioner Ms. Wang Chunyan (Group 2 of Division 10) did not wear the inmate badge, team head Li Jing called her to the office. Prison ward head Dai Jing wanted to put her in the solitary confinement cell. When stepping out of the office, Ms. Wang called out, "Falun Dafa is good!" and fainted. Because of that, the guards did not persecute her any worse.

On December 2, 2009, because practitioner Ms. Liu Xingge (Group 2 of Division 10) did not wear the inmate badge, supervisor Li Jing called her to the office. Several people were at there, including guard Cui Jie, officer Wu Jiaxu, and Group 5 head Sun Weijing. Prison ward head Dai Jing came in and asked why Ms. Liu did not wear the badge. Ms. Liu did not answer.

Seeing Dai Jing with an electric baton in her hand, Ms. Liu told her, "Please do not do this to me--it is not good for you. I am not a prisoner; why should I wear the badge?" Dai Jing grabbed Ms. Liu by her clothes, and Ms. Liu called out, "Falun Dafa is good!" They held Ms. Liu down on the floor as she continued to call out, "Falun Dafa is good!" Dai Jing forced Ms. Liu's left hand behind her back. Wu Jiaxu, Sun Weijing, and others held Ms. Liu's feet. Then Dai Ying attempted to stuff a rag in her mouth, but failed even after several attempts. As Dai Jing stamped on her back, they handcuffed her. Dai Ying pushed her against the ground; she then stood up again. Dai Ying said, "Put her [Ms. Liu] in the solitary confinement cell."

Upon hearing that Ms. Liu's detention term expired on January 29, 2010, Dai Ying said, "Then let her term expire while she is in the solitary confinement cell. That way, she will be kept for at least another week." In the beginning, Ms. Liu was handcuffed with her hands in front of her, but Wu Jiaxu changed it so that she was handcuffed behind her back. Not wantin Ms. Liu to shout out anything, Dai Jing attempted to stuff a rag into her mouth, but failed. They then used tape to wrap Ms. Liu's head, from her mouth to her hair in the back. Inmates Qiu Jie and Shen Xiaoli carried her into the solitary confinement cell, which was very cold. She was held there for over a month, from December 2, 2009, to January 6, 2010.

Ms. Li Yuhua, a practitioner detained in Group 4 of Division 10, was put in a solitary confinement cell from October 10 to 19 because of an argument with Dai Jing.

Practitioner Ms. Huo Xiuqing, because of her high blood pressure, didn't do forced labor. She was force-fed with drugs by inmates Qiu Jie and Shen Xiaoli before October 1, 2009. They also forced her to stay a whole day in an open area in the hallway. Her feet were injured because of the cold.

Practitioner Ms. Du Jingqin's (detained in Group 5 of Division 10) blood pressure was too high for her to work. However, after finishing work in the evening, the guards did not allow her to sleep. Instead, the guards ordered 12 inmates in her cell to take turns reading defaming books to her, two people a shift, till 10:00 p.m. They also ordered her to sit on a small stool, but she refused. Inmates then sealed the door and windows with newspaper and covered her with her own bed sheet before they beat her.

In Division 9, the determined practitioners, after they first arrived, were hung up in their cell, force-fed cold water, and had cold water poured over them. Then they were forced to do hard labor. Practitioner Ms. Fu Yan (detained in Group 5 of Division 9) refused to do hard labor and was put in a solitary confinement cell on November 15, 2009. She returned to the cell on December 9. But several days later, she was put in a solitary confinement cell again. It was very cold in the cell, and Ms. Fu did not have a quilt or winter clothes to keep herself warm. She had two tumors on her neck, which have now become malignant.

In Division 8 practitioners who refused to do hard labor were held in solitary confinement cells. It is very cold there, and they are not provided with a quilt or winter clothes. Practitioner Li Mingyan, detained in Division 3, was reported to have passed along Master's articles to other people. She was thus put in a solitary confinement cell in December 2009, and has not been released as of January 6. When personnel from Hebei Province came to visit, practitioner Jiang Wei stood up to clarify the truth. She was put in a solitary confinement cell for nearly one month.

Mr. Xian Chunwei's Three Forced Labor Terms

By our correspondent in Shandong Province, China

Name: Xian Chunwei (霰春伟)
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Address: Zhuanghanmiao Village, Mihe Town, Qingzhou City, Shandong Province
Occupation: Unknown
Date of Most Recent Arrest: June 5, 2009
Most recent place of detention: Mingshui Labor Camp in Zhangqiu, Jinan City (济南章丘明水劳教所)
City: Jinan
Province: Shandong
Persecution Suffered: Detention, solitary confinement, forced labor, torture, physical constraint, sleep deprivation, beatings, extortion, force-feeding
Key Persecutors: Zuo Hengfa (左横法), Pan Hongmin (潘洪民)

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Xian Chunwei, an employee of the Urea Division of Qingzhou Fertilizer Factory, began practicing Falun Gong in 1995. Since July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, the Qingzhou Police Department and Domestic Security Division agents frequently harassed his family, including breaking in and ransacking their home. They also arrested and tortured Mr. Xian numerous times. Mr. Xian was held at forced labor camps three times for a total of six years and is currently detained at the Mingshui Labor Camp in Zhangqiu, Jinan City.

Qingzhou Fertilizer Factory director Hou Chuntao and Party secretary Chang Chengshu joined security chief Jiang Sheng in detaining Mr. Xian in the factory's garage. They nailed the windows of the garage shut. There was no toilet there and Mr. Xian had to relieve himself inside the garage. Mr. Xian eventually broke free and went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and officers from the Qingzhou Domestic Security Division detained him for one month. After his release, Party Secretary Chang Chengshu and others detained and tortured Mr. Xian again. When officials tried to arrest him again in October 2000, he left the factory and went into exile.

Officers from the Qingzhou Domestic Security Division arrested Mr. Xian from his rented home on February 20, 2001 and took personal possessions from the apartment. He was sentenced to three years of forced labor and taken to Changle Labor Camp in Weifang City, Shandong Province.

The guards and inmates at the labor camp tortured Mr. Xian. The prison extended his term by nine months because he refused to give up his belief in Falun Dafa. After he was released, Xian Chunwei went to former practitioners who were deceived by Party propaganda and explained to them the facts about Falun Gong in the hopes that they would see through the vicious persecution. Qingzhou Domestic Security Division head Zuo Hengfa charged him with "counter-revolutionary activities" and sentenced him to two years of forced labor in June 2005. Mr. Xian was taken to Wangcun Labor Camp in Shandong Province. He was sent to the Strictly Controlled Team. Detainees in this team were forced to do hard labor and worked overtime almost on a daily basis.

Qingzhou Domestic Security Division officials arrested Xian Chunwei again during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and sent him to the Kuiwen District Party School in Weifang City for a brainwashing session.

When Mr. Xian went to the Qingzhou Road Police Station in Qingzhou City to get his ID on June 5, 2009, the police detained him. An officer (the last four digits on his badge: 0421) savagely beat him. One man who claimed to be the police chief screamed, "How can you prove that we beat you?" Qingzhou Domestic Security Division officials including Yang Haifeng and Zhang Laian took Mr. Xian to the Qingzhou Brainwashing Center at the former Guashi Police Station in Qingzhou and robbed him of all the money and belongings that he was carrying.

The police handcuffed Mr. Xian backward to a metal chair at the brainwashing center and chained his feet, so he could not move. They locked him in this posture for 35 days, during which time they took turns forcing him to stay awake and would brutally assault him if he dozed off.

Domestic security official Zhang Laian and Zhu Gang from the Mihe Town Birth Control Committee and Zhang from the Mihe Town administration ordered official Liu to buy hard liquor and force-feed it to Xian Chunwei. They also poured cold water on his head and neck. Yang Haifeng, Pan Hongmin and Zhang Laian said, "Our superiors ordered us to do it; there's nothing we can do [but to obey]."

Mr. Xian went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention and brutality. Domestic Security Division head Zuo Hengfa took him to Yidu Central Hospital on June 7. Mr. Xian shouted, "Falun Dafa is good." The officials took him back to the police station, fearing that other people would hear him exposing the persecution. They threatened him, "We have lots of ways to 'take care' of you; you'll wish for death."

Officials Zuo Hengfa, Yang Haifeng and Pan Hongmin also ransacked the home of Mr. Xian's fiancée in Weifang City and terrorized her and her family. They then ransacked his rented apartment in Weicheng and harassed the landlord and neighbors. One month later, Qingzhou Police Department agents and those from the Qingzhou Domestic Security Division sentenced Mr. Xian to one year of forced labor and held him at Mingshui Labor Camp in Zhangqiu, Jinan City.

After the Qingzhou police took Mr. Xian to the brainwashing facility, his family anxiously looked for him everywhere. The officials told them, "We don't know where he is; we haven't seen him." Deputy police chief Yang Xitao and brainwashing center head Duan even threatened his family, telling them to stop seeking him.

Persecution of Mr. Xian's family

Officers Liu Dayong, Xi Gang and others from the Mihe Town Police Station ransacked the home of Xian Chunwei's parents in Zhuanghanmiao Village and took away lots of personal belongings. Mr. Xian's father said, "Liu Dayong, the person wearing glasses, with a black mole on his face, took 460 yuan, which was my six-months' savings that I was going to use to buy coal for the winter. He also took a bag of old cassettes and a letter."

When Mr. Xian visited his parents in January 2009, the same officers again tried to arrest him. Neighbors and passersby stood up to the police and demanded to know why they took the family's winter heating money. Liu Dayong denied it, saying that he did not take any money, and then he changed the story and said that Mr. Xian's parents signed a document to agree to give him the money. Mr. Xian's parents are illiterate. As more and more villagers gathered, Liu Dayong threatened, "If you don't let me through, I'll arrest you." The farmers refused to budge and the police finally left after a one-hour stalemate.

Some officials responsible for the persecution of Xian Chunwei:
Zuo Hengfa, Qingzhou City Domestic Security Division Head: 86-536-3229829 (Home), 86-15953665166 (Cell)
Pan Hongmin, Qingzhou City Domestic Security Division Head, former head of the Mihe Town Police Station in Qingzhou City

Mr. Liu Yuhe's Family Reveals How He Was Tortured in Prison

By our correspondent in Jilin Province, China

Name: Liu Yuhe (刘玉和)
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Address: Unknown
Occupation: Unknown

Date of Most Recent Arrest: Unknown
Most recent place of detention: Jilin Prison (吉林省吉林监狱)
City: Jilin
Province: Jilin
Persecution Suffered: Imprisonment, illegal sentencing, force-feeding, beating, torture, electric shocks, hung up, solitary confinement

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Liu Yuhe from Jilin Province was illegally sentenced and sent to Jilin Prison, where he was tortured. His family members' demands for justice have gone unanswered. To protest the persecution, Mr. Liu went on a hunger strike, but the prison guards tortured him with forced feeding.

Mr. Liu suffered severe injuries in prison. He lost control of his bowels and bladder and was in critical condition. He was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment. His family authorized a lawyer to sue Jilin Prison officials for abusing him, but the prison authorities threatened the lawyer with retaliation.

To rescue Mr. Liu, his family filed an accusation with the Jilin Province justice system, and demanded that he be released on medical parole. The have yet to receive a reply.

The following is Liu Yuhe family's accusation.

During his detention, Liu Yuhe was tortured repeatedly. His family made strong demands for the offenders to be punished. This demand has yet to be answered. To protest his illegal imprisonment and maltreatment, Mr. Liu launched a hunger strike, but the police responded by force-feeding him. Currently, Mr. Liu has lost the ability to care for himself. He lost control of his bowels and bladder and is under emergency care in a hospital.

The end of May 2009, the Jilin Province Prison Administration personnel investigated guards Li Yongsheng, Wang Yuanchun, and others for their roles in instigating criminal inmates to torture and harm Mr. Liu. Prison officials covered up the facts and locked him into a small cell as revenge.

Based on our knowledge, on November 2, 2009, Li Yijiao, the prison affairs section head; Sun Fengjun, a guard from the strictly controlled team; and Sun Wen, the prison doctor, tortured Mr. Liu badly. After that, we went to the prison to visit Mr. Liu. Guard Zhang Meng from Ward Five answered our phone call, and another guard said, "Liu Yuhe is in the hospital and he is not eligible for a family visit." When we asked why, he cursed at us.

To protect Liu Yuhe, we hired a lawyer to defend him.

On November 13, 2009, we went to Jilin Prison again to see Mr. Liu, but the guards wouldn't let us in, saying he was under discipline in the hospital. When the lawyer asked to see him to obtain his signature on the contract, the prison officials refused his request. On November 16, we went to the prison one more time to make sure he was all right, but the guards once again turned us away. We demanded to see the residing prosecutor at the prison, but to no avail.

Since our voices fell on deaf ears, I want to briefly recount the persecution that my brother Liu Yuhe suffered and ask for help.

Liu Yuhe was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Chuanying Court of Jilin City on September 11, 2007. At Jilin Prison, he was repeatedly assaulted by criminal inmates and tortured by guards, and he suffered severe injuries.

Beginning July 31, 2008, the prison intensified his maltreatment. On that day, a guard and several criminal inmates escorted him to the strictly controlled cell and forced him to sit on a narrow bench from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every day. His entire body weight rested on the bench, so his buttocks hurt badly. When he could not sit straight any longer, the guards told inmates to push hard against his neck and to use electric batons on his head.

In October 2008, Mr. Liu was sent to a strictly controlled cell again. Under guard Sun Fengjun's direction, inmates Sun Xinghe, Fan Tiejun, and Liang Xinming used ropes to hang up him and tortured him for two days, causing severe injuries. To this day, his hands still feel numb and he gets sharp pains in them. They also did not allow him to use the toilet for two days. As a result, his pants and clothes were soiled. He was forced to sit on a narrow bench for more than a month.

In the afternoon of November 28, 2008, guard Dai Jun took Mr. Liu to the strictly controlled cell again. On January 14, 2009 at 8:00 a.m., criminals Sun Xinghe, Liang Xinming. and Fan Tiejun began to hit him violently. At 7:30 p.m., Fan Tiejun took him outside of the strictly controlled cell and began to strip off his clothes with the assistance of inmates Ma Jingyu, Sun Xinghe, and Cui Yong. They pinned the naked Liu to the floor and began punching and kicking him. They blamed him for reporting the violence to the authorities even as they continued to beat him, "How dare you tell others about the beating? You are supposed to keep your mouth shut about things that happen here. We know you wrote a letter to the prosecution office to accuse Ma Jingyu and Sun Xinghe for beating you. We've wanted to beat you for a long time, so we are beating you today! Will you dare to report it again?" Guards Liu Tong and Li stood nearby while the beating went on, but they pretended to see nothing. Guard Dong Jian said, "How could we call this place a strictly controlled cell if we don't beat people?" After a long time, the inmates were exhausted and stopped. But at 8:10 p.m., inmate Liang Xinming pushed him to a restroom and beat him again. He was severely injured, had a bloody nose, and vomited; he also suffered a heart attack. Fan Tiejun and Ma Jingyu were scared, so they forced him to swallow some medicine for a heart attack and let him go.

In April 2009, Mr. Liu was locked up in the strictly controlled cell again. During his detention there, he repeatedly complained to the prison staff and higher agencies about how he had been abused. The guards assaulted him repeatedly and locked him in a solitary confinement cell. While covering up their crimes, the guards tightened their grip on him. Since the beginning of the persecution, more than ten practitioners have died in Jilin Prison. Now, Mr. Liu Yuhe is in critical condition. We demand that he be released on medical parole. We fear for his life. If something happens to him, we will definitely fight for justice for him.

I demand that legal actions be taken against the guards and inmates that used violence on my brother, Liu Yuhe. I also demand monetary compensation on behalf of Liu Yuhe.

Liu Yufa, November 16, 2009

By our correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ai Qingfeng from Liaozhong County, Liaoning Province was forced to leave home to avoid being persecuted. Over a period of eight years, his fingers were constantly frozen in the cold temperatures with the ensuing result that he lost eight of his fingers and his ability to work. Mr. Ai Qingfeng is 54 years old and his home is in Dingjiabao Village, Liuerbao Town, Liaozhong County, Liaoning Province. Ms. Li Yanchun Sentenced to Ten Years In Prison

By our correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Yanchun of Huludao City, Liaoning Province was sentenced to ten years in prison by the Lianshan District Court in Huludao on November 18, 2008.

Ms. Li was arrested at her home on June 1, 2008, by officers from the Lianshan District Police Department and Domestic Security Division. The arresting officers were Zhang Jun, Captain of the Domestic Security Brigade, Liu Shijun, Deputy Captain of the Domestic Security Brigade, and Yang Guirong, Wang Shumin, Zhou Zheren, Zhang Linji and Yu Guiqiu.

The arresting officers searched Ms. Li's home, confiscated many of her personal belongings, interrogated her and, at one point, knocked her down and kicked her in the head before transporting her to the Suizhong Detention Center in Huludao.

Ms. Li was later taken to the Lianshan District Procuratorate. Prosecutors from the Procuratorate Wang Jun, Zhang Liang, and Zhang Xiaoquan filed charges against Ms. Li in the Lianshan District Court.

Ms. Li was tried in the Lianshan District Court on November 18, 2008. Ms. Li's family hired attorney Zhai Yihe from the Tianbang Law Firm in Liaoning Province to defend her, and Mr. Zhai entered a plea of not guilty. In a highly irregular move, the judge sentenced Ms. Li while the court was in recess. Ms. Li appealed to the Huludao Intermediate Court but the judge, under pressure from the local 610 Office, upheld the original sentence. This was not the first time that Ms. Li has been persecuted for her belief in Falun Dafa.

Ms. Li is 44 years old and used to work in the petroleum refinery in Huludao. She learned Falun Dafa in 1996 and, after the Chinese Communist Party banned Falun Dafa and began persecuting its practitioners in July 1999, Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal. She was arrested at the Huludao Train Station and taken to the Lianshan District Public Safety Bureau. For 35 days she was locked in the Huludao City Detention Center before she was taken to a brainwashing center, where she was tortured for two months. After Ms. Li was released, she was fired by her employer because she refused to renounce Falun Gong.

After that, in November 1999, police officers from Longgang District Public Safety Bureau broke into Ms. Li's home to arrest her, but she was able to escape. After this, officers came to her home regularly and harassed her son, frightening him so much that he refused to go to school. Failing to find Ms. Li, police officers harassed her family members as well.

The names of those who participated in Ms. Li's persecution include:

Presiding judge of the Lianshan District Court in Huludao: Li Dehai

Falun Gong Practitioners Discouraged from Working at the Chinese Academy of Sciences

By a correspondent in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) In November 2009, the Clearwisdom website published an article entitled, "The Persecution of Mr. Yu Yaou, a Doctoral Student at the South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" (http://www.clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2009/12/14/113118.html). This article described how Mr. Yu and his wife were arrested and monitored and about other, hidden means used to persecute this couple.

Mr. Yu was in graduate school at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and in August 2005, he started his work at the South China Botanical Garden, where he worked hard and was an honest person. His advisor told him on many occasions that he was welcome to stay and work in the group after he graduated. Mr. Yu was arrested in 2008, after which he had much trouble continuing his work at the garden. A police officer told him, "Don't even think about government jobs because you are a Falun Gong practitioner."

In November 2009, Mr. Yu's advisor told him, "I know you work hard and are very considerate of others. If it was up to me, I would keep you. However, I am not sure what the government leaders would do." Mr. Yu decided to talk to officials at every level who had exerted pressure on his advisor.

His appeals made these officials persecute him further, and they ordered his advisor to make certain Mr. Yu graduated by January 30, 2010, and that he leave Guangzhou soon after. Mr. Yu has been working hard writing his dissertation and preparing for his defense. He believed the time of his graduation should depend on his progress in his research rather than on a order from government officials. He refused to comply with the arrangement.

Mr. Yu's advisor told him again that, because of his personal schedule and pressure from above, he wanted Mr. Yu to defend his dissertation on January 26. Mr. Yu gave his advisor four reasons why he would not: "The Party secretary once told me that I may not be given a doctoral degree because of my practice. This is against the law and should be resolved before I proceed to defend my dissertation. Secondly, I have written two manuscripts for submission. If I continue to work here, I will have time to publish them and obtain my degree. If I am forced to leave, I may never publish them or get my degree. It is not the proper time for me to defend my work and then leave. Thirdly, I am being deprived of the opportunity to work in CAS without a reasonable explanation. Being able to work is important to me and this problem needs to be resolved before I defend. Finally, I have not finished a lot of work for the science project I am in. It is only responsible and ethical that I stay and finish the job. I therefore refuse any scheduled defense that is forced upon me."

Mr. Yu's wife, Ms. Li Shanshan, worked in a plant-chemistry related group. She often worked overtime and stayed late. In 2008, she and her husband were arrested together right before the Beijing Olympics. The government launched large scale arrests of dissidents, petitioners, and Falun Gong practitioners before the games to make sure no protests occurred during the international event and in front of the cameras. Ms. Li could not go to work for a year and a half. When she returned to work on December 14, 2009, her supervisor and a Party official told her that she needed to re-apply for her position. She refused to accept the conditions requiring her to go through a "three month trial period" before she could be officially hired.

Ms. Li's supervisor had told her before that she had passed the trial period and was officially employed. Ms. Li read the hiring and managing policies of the garden and could not find a regulation stating that she be fired before her arrest. She asked personnel in Human Resources and the Party secretary but received no answer.

An insider told Ms. Li, "Officials of the garden want your husband to complete and finish defending his PhD dissertation before they will allow you to go back to work. [The officials and Human Resources] push you around because you practice Falun Gong. They won't tell you that." The informer explained, "No one wants to get into trouble and be responsible for Falun Gong practitioners. The pressure from above is too much. You are a temporary worker, and no one cares if you come back to work, but your husband is a registered student and that is the problem."

In the CAS, the persecution of Falun Gong implicates those who work with practitioners. When a practitioner becomes problematic in the Party's eye, the practitioner's supervisor or advisor will shoulder a lot of pressure or even lose his job. Under such a policy, a practitioner's teacher, classmates, supervisor, and friends are targets of the persecution as well. As a result, practitioners are treated unfairly at work.

Two Falun Gong Practitioners from Beijing and Jilin Passed Away After Persecution in Labor Camps

(Clearwisdom.net)

Mr. Liu Zhenhua, a Falun Gong practitioner from Beijing, passed away

Mr. Liu Zhenhua lived in Tianshuiyuan of Chaoyang District, Beijing. Before practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Liu had several illnesses such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, glaucoma, etc. After practicing Falun Gong, all of his illnesses were gone. In early 2006, he was taken into custody by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police from his home and was sentenced to two years of forced labor. In the forced labor camp, he was persecuted by the guards and criminals, which caused his illnesses such as diabetes and glaucoma to return. He almost lost sight in both eyes. In June 2007, he was released for medical treatment. The CCP staff members continued to constantly harass him. On August 26, 2009, Mr. Liu Zhenhua passed away. He was 63 years old.

Mr. Jin Guangzhu, a Falun Gong practitioner from Yanbian of Jilin Province, passed away

Jin Guangzhu was born in 1964 and lived in Shitou Village, Liangshui Town, Tumen City. Before practicing Falun Gong, although he was an upright honest person, he had a very bad temper and often caused trouble for his family. His family worried about him a lot. Because he had severe arthritis, he had serious pains in his legs. He began to practice Falun Gong in 1999. After starting to practice, he underwent great changes both physically and mentally. He no longer had pains in his body. Moreover, he did not drink alcohol, neither did he smoke cigarettes. He did not cause any trouble for his family any more and he both respected elderly people and cared for younger ones. He became his household's supporter. His parents stated that it was Falun Gong that had saved their son.

In January 2001, Mr. Jin Guangzhu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa and was illegally arrested and sent to Yanji Forced Labor Camp, where he was inhumanly and brutally tortured. He was beaten up. Once he was locked in a frozen storage room for one week only because he did not obey the rules of the forced labor camp and picked up his 5-year-old daughter who had come to visit him. The forced labor camp did not give him any bedding. He was shivering from cold all the time. Each day they only gave him two small steamed buns (one in the morning and one in the evening). It was far beyond what his body could endure. When he was released, his face was pale and he had no energy. After he returned home, he had cancer and went to the hospital but the treatment was ineffective. He passed away in May 2008.

Ms. Li Jumei Seriously Ill in Detention Center; Her Husband Died as a Result of Persecution

By our correspondent from Hunan Province, China

Name: Li Jumei
Gender: Female
Age: 37
Address: Unknown
Occupation: Teacher
Date of Most Recent Arrest: August 6, 2009
Most Recent Place of Detention: Jilin City Detention Center (吉林市看守所)
City: Jilin
Province: Jilin
Persecution Suffered: Detention, home ransacked, beatings

(Clearwisdom.net) On January 18, 2010, Dafa practitioner Li Jumei from Jiahe County, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, suddenly fainted at a detention center, hemorrhaging from her lower body. At that time she had already been persecuted for more than six months. She was sent to a hospital. Ms. Li came back home from the hospital in the afternoon in January 21, 2010, however, she is still being monitored by the Jiahe Police.

Guo Huisheng, Li Jumei's husband, was a cadre in the Office of Legislative Affairs in the Jiahe Government. He and Li Jumei wrote a letter to Xi Xiaogang, the director of the Lanshan Police Department, to request that Dafa practitioner Xiao Silan be set free. Xiao Silan had been arrested in Taipingxu, Lanshan. Because of their letter, the 610 Office and the State Security Bureau severely persecuted the couple. In the evening of August 6, 2009, they were taken away by dozens of police. Their house was illegally ransacked twice while they were not in. Guo Huisheng was brutally beaten by four police officers at the police station.

On October 6, 2009, Guo Huisheng fainted at the detention center and was sent to a hospital. After brain surgery, he was still unconscious. He could not move, and his heartbeat was weak. He passed away in the hospital on October 12, 2009. (Related article: http://www.clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2009/10/19/111715.html)

Li Jumei is a teacher from the Zhuquanwan Elementary School in Jiahe. She had bone cancer before practicing Falun Gong and was in a state of despair. She became healthy after practicing Dafa. Because of the great benefits she received from Dafa, she simply wanted to tell more people about how amazing Dafa is, but she was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). She was taken to Baimalong Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou twice by the 610 Office.

On January 12, 2010, the Jiahe Court opened a session to try Li Jumei. Her family was not informed of the trial. During the trial, Li Jumei exposed the persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Li Jumei became ill in the detention center, and was sent to the hospital. The result showed a relapse of bone cancer. Her family tried to take her home several times. On January 18, 2010, Li Jumei fainted because of bleeding in her lower body. That is when she was sent to hospital and returned, still under the constant surveillance of the Jiahe Police.

Ms. Wang Huimin Dies as Result of Persecution

By a correspondent from Jilin Province

Name: Wang Huimin (王慧敏)
Gender: Female
Age: 63
Address: Jilin City, Jilin Province
Occupation: Unknown
Date of Death: January 3, 2010
Date of Most Recent Arrest: October 2008
Most Recent Place of Detention: Jilin City Detention Center (吉林省九台拘留所)
City: Jilin
Province: Jilin
Persecution Suffered: Forced labor, brainwashing, illegal sentencing, beatings, imprisonment, torture, home ransacked, interrogation, detention

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Wang Huimin started to practice Falun Dafa in 1994. After becoming a practitioner, she was considerate of others and was considered a good person. She was praised by her relatives, friends and neighbors. When she started practicing, many of her ailments, including cerebral thrombosis, disappeared. Although Ms. Wang was a good person, she was mistreated and tortured for ten years. On January 3, 2010, Ms. Wang died at home from many years of abuse.

On July 20, 1999, the CCP started to persecute practitioners of Falun Gong. Because Ms. Wang was a local assistant, agents from the local area neighborhood administration office and the local police station went to her home to harass her and force her to give up practicing. She firmly resisted. In October 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was sentenced to one year of forced labor. During this period, she was tortured both physically and mentally. After she returned from the Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City in 2001, she was continually harassed and monitored. She was forced to leave home to avoid being mistreated.

In 2002, Ms. Wang was arrested by police officers from the Jilin City Department and the State Security Bureau and sentenced to seven years in prison. During this time, she was tortured until she became paralyzed. She was later taken home by the police on a stretcher.

In October 2002, because the Sixteenth CCP Conference was to be held, police officers started to arrest Falun Gong practitioners; over forty practitioners were arrested. Practitioners were held in a detention center at the Huapi Factory, Jilin City. A brainwashing session was held in an attempt to forcefully "transform" practitioners of Falun Gong. Ms. Wang maintained righteous thoughts and went on a hunger strike for eleven days to protest the persecution while requesting to be released without any conditions. Not one of the forty practitioners was "transformed." This brainwashing session was organized by He Baoxi, the chief of the Jilin City 610 Office.

Around July 20, 2000, the city police department assigned local police officers to arrest Ms. Wang on a sensitive date. She did not cooperate with them and did not open the door to her home. She opened the window and told her neighbors and people passing by about the persecution and clarified the truth to them. Many people criticized the police for their behavior. However, the police officers did not pay attention to people's objections and broke the windows and arrested her. Ms. Wang's neighbors witnessed her being lifted onto a stretcher with a sheet covering her lifeless body. They guessed that Ms. Wang was hit so hard that she became unconscious.

In September 2007, she was taken home in a car by police officers. She had been tortured so severely she was unable to take care of herself. Her sister stayed at home for a month to care for her.

During the Beijing Olympics, police officers from Jilin City assigned agents of the neighborhood administration office to harass Ms. Wang. She was not allowed to go out. She took the opportunity to clarify the truth to the people who monitored her.

In October 2008, Ms. Wang and other practitioners went to the Jiutai Forced Labor Camp. They were surrounded by several police vehicles. When Ms. Wang and two other practitioners cried out "Falun Dafa is good," the police pulled their hair and kicked them. They arrested Ms. Wang along with the other practitioners; they were held at the Jiutai Detention Center for six days.

The Jilin City 610 Office, the Jilin City Police Department, the State Security Division, the Jilin City Police Department and the Dadong Neighborhood Administration Office have all tortured and harassed practitioners. As a result, Ms. Wang and her family experienced a great amount of stress and her family was almost broken apart. Over the last ten years, she was arrested over ten times and was severely tortured. Twice she was hit so hard that she became paralyzed. She was injured both physically and mentally. Being unable to tolerate further abuse, her health deteriorated and she could not eat or sleep. On January 3, 2010, Ms. Wang passed away.

After Several Imprisonments, Ms. Chen Qinfang Illegally Subjected to Forced Labor Again

By a correspondent in Shanghai, China

Name: Chen Qinfang (陈琴芳)
Gender: Female
Age: Unknown
Address: Zijinsan Village, Anting Township, Shanghai
Occupation: Unknown
Date of Most Recent Arrest: November 1, 2009
Most recent place of detention: Kunshan Detention Center (昆山看守所 )
City: Shanghai
Persecution Suffered: Detention, home ransacked, hung by handcuffs, forced labor, solitary confinement

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Chen Qinfang went shopping at Zhongyu Square Farmer's Market in Huaqiao Township, Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province on November 1, 2009. She was suddenly abducted and taken to Kunshan Cao'An Police Station. After the subsequent ransacking of her home, her family did not hear from her again.

After Ms. Chen was illegally arrested, personnel from the police station never told her family where she was being detained. She didn't even have a change of clothing. In the chilly weather of early November, her family wanted to send her some warm clothing, but they didn't know where she was being held.

Ms. Chen's family received no notice until the night of November 24 when they got a call. The police told them to go to Kunshan Detention Center the next day. Only then did her family know that Ms. Chen had been secretly sentenced to a one-year forced labor term. She refused to give up her belief.

Ms. Chen was in tears when she told her family how she was persecuted by the police. In order to frame her, the Cao'An police took out four pieces of paper money with "Falun Dafa Is Good" characters written on them and claimed that those bills were taken from her. She had only carried a red purse with "The World Needs Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" characters on it.

Twice before Ms. Chen had been persecuted while being detained at Qingpu Women's Forced Labor Camp because of her truth-clarification activities. One time it was for two years while the other time it was for one year. While at the forced labor camp, her arms were fastened behind her back and she was hung from the window's iron bars. She was detained in an isolated cell. In the summer, she was forced to work for long stretches, day and night. She was reported while clarifying the truth using paper money in Huaqiao, Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. She was detained again.

The communist regime has exhausted it's most shameless and devious methods to persecute kind people who live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Hundreds of People in Shuangcheng, Harbin, Call for the Release of Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Li Lanying

By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province

(Clearwisdom.net)

On December 2, 2009, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Li Lanying was illegally sentenced to a four-year prison term by the Shuangcheng People's Court, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. Ms. Li and her husband Mr. Gao Guang'en were persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CPP), which made people in Shuangcheng angry at the local government. More than four hundred people stood up and called for the unconditional release of Ms. Li. At the end of December 2009, Ms. Li's family appealed to Harbin Intermediate People's Court.

Ms. Li was born on October 15, 1956. She lives in Min'an Village, Wujia Town, Shuangcheng. Before practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from many diseases and her husband lost his ability to work due to his cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. At one time, this drove the couple to thoughts of suicide because of their diseases and poor living conditions. However, when they heard about Falun Gong, they started practicing it, and within only a few months, all their chronic diseases were gone. They benefited tremendously from Falun Gong physically and mentally, and they were able to start a new life.

However, soon the CCP started the persecution of Falun Gong and Mr. Gao was illegally held in a detention center and severely tortured. When he was released, the local police broke into their home, kidnapped him, ransacked their home and harassed them again and again. On January 5, 2006, sadly, Mr Gao passed away due to the brutal torture. (Please refer to http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2006/3/7/70579.html)

On September 9, 2009, when Ms. Li was talking to people about Falun Gong, Zhang Dahai, head of Shuangjing Village, and Wang Jun, Party Secretary, reported her to the police. Xu Kai, director of Wujia Police Station, and police officers Yang Zhongwei and Wang Changqi abducted her and broke into her home. They took a computer, a printer and other personal property. Later, they sent Ms. Li to Harbin No. 2 Detention Center (which is also called Duck Nest).

On September 28, 2009, Ms. Li's family went to Wujia Police Station and demanded her unconditional release. However the police refused and Yang Zhongwei, vice director of Wujia Police Station, shouted at them rudely: "Just go ahead and try to sue us!"

Tong Huiqun from the Shuangcheng Domestic Security Division, together with police officers from Wujia Police Station, falsified evidence against Ms. Li and submitted it to the Procuratorate three times, concocting a false charge against her. Their charge was rebutted the first two times, however, on the third occasion, Zhang Hailong, a prosecuting officer from Shuangcheng Procuratorate accepted the case without investigating. He submitted the charge to Shuangcheng People's Court.

On December 2, 2009, Shuangcheng People's Court placed Ms. Li on "trial." A day before the trial, Ms. Li's family asked when it would take place, but they were told that the date had not been decided. Through her family's efforts in making different inquiries, they finally found out that Ms. Li was going to trial in half an hour. They hurried to the court and saw Ms. Li who was very weak due to the torture. Although it was a bitterly cold winter in northern China, she was only allowed to wear slippers. It was verified later that when Ms. Li went on a hunger strike to protest, the police brutally forced-fed her several times. They even threatened her, saying: "If you still say you won't quit practicing Falun Gong, we will force-feed you every day!"Ms. Li was badly tortured and she developed high blood-pressure and became very weak.

The whole process of the illegal trial lasted for less than 20 minutes. Judge Wu Haomin, two judicial officials Zheng He and Xu Bingquan, secretary Zhao Yu, prosecuting officer Zhang Hailong, several police, and Ms. Li's family were the only people allowed to be present at the trial. The judge and judicial officers asked a few token questions and then called it a day.

Seeing Ms. Li in court, her family knew that she had been brutally tortured. They requested to see Ms. Li in the detention center, however, the prosecuting officer in the detention center said: "We cannot let you see her, because if you saw her, Ms. Li could appeal. If that happened, then our efforts would be in vain."

On December 9, 2009, the judges from the Shuangcheng People's Court broke the law and illegally sentenced Ms. Li to a four-year prison term. She appealed to the Harbin Intermediate People's Court. Wang Yutang from the second tribunal accepted her appeal.

Ms. Li is in now in Shuangcheng Detention Center. More than four hundred villagers from Wujia Town and neighboring towns, and people in Shuangcheng, decided to help her by signing a petition that asked the police to unconditionally release her. Some of these people had seen for themselves how Ms. Li changed miraculously after practicing Falun Gong, and others heard about the miraculous change. They knew that Ms. Li and her family were persecuted by the CCP, and they wanted to give a hand.

(Clearwisdom.net ) (By a correspondent in Liaoning Province) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Dawei was persecuted in four prisons in eight years since 2001. In the last prison--Dongling Prison in Shenyan City--she was so severely tortured that her health was completely ruined: she was abnormally skinny, suffered from a mental disorder, and was unable to eat. She passed away two weeks after returning home on September 26, 2009.

Her family appealed to the appropriate departments and organizations last year. Dongling Prison and its supervising unit, the Judiciary Committee of Shenyang City, threatened her family to keep them from appealing, but Ms. Xu's sad story caught the attention of some people with conscience who agreed to handle the case according to the law.

The lawyer hired by the family recently filed legal papers, including a Complaint for Compensation, to the Dongling Prison and will send them to the relevant judicial departments in Shenyang City as well.
